PHOTOS: ‘RAG DAY’ as celebrated in IMSU
Rag day historically is an activity
introduced with sole aim of raising fund for newly admitted students in imo
state university and beyond.
The school management through the
students union government (SUG) at the end of the programme, gather the
proceeds from ‘RAG STIKERS’ sold to students to make donations to orphanage and
make the centers more functional as obtained from Mr. Elijah Madubuihe.
‘ RAG’ means ‘Raise and Give’ day.
Today, students were seen in their
numbers wearing tattered clothes in order to appear funny and at the same time
cut a picture of people in distress.
The act, undoubtedly make individual
and passersby see reasons to donate some money to them and they appear as
though they are beggars in their torn dresses walking around the cities, towns
and roam the streets endlessly in groups or individually.
Elijah Madubuihe (IMSUGIST.COM) observed the rag day in imo state university, discovered that each student
joins his or her colleagues to observe the exercise for different reasons.
Some students now see it as
opportunity to catch fun and experience some form of excitement with the money
realized while others particularly those who are having financial difficulties
make use of such exercise to seek for donations from the public.
In desperation, some students
travelled as far as they could go during the exercise just to make enough money
and it had unfortunately resulted to several students involving in road
crashes.
