On Thursday 22nd June, the department of
library and information science in faculty of education imo state university
owerri celebrated cultural day in a unique and exciting way.
The event took place at the department of
library and information science imo state university owerri, where the students
under the aegis of national association of library and information science
students (NALISS) explored the broader concepts of igbo belief, values and
culture.
The faculties that were represented were
faculty of education, faculty of environmental science, faculty of social
science, faculty of business, mechanical and humanities students association.
The NALISS 2016/2017
executives led by Mr. Cosmos nnaji (elder) worked hard towards the successful
conduct of the cultural day, and their efforts were duly reciprocated by the student
population that came out in huge numbers and participated with a spirit of healthy competition to win prizes and to
have fun and frolic.
The event was a huge success as people turned up in
large numbers to tap their feet in unison with the performances of team “nwa
jesus” comedy crew organized by NALISS 100L community alongside innovative
concepts.
The closing ceremony was no less fascinating and was
attended by the honourable director academic planning imo state university, the
university librarian, dean faculty of education, HODs, faculty members,
registrar of the department, members of imsu traditional council, imsu elijah
and others.
The major attraction of the ceremony remained the “akuko – uha bu eziokwu” an Igbo news
presentation which brought the audience to its feet as the students
cheered and marvelled at the excellence in diction of the presenters (snuzy,
tony, prince, and kendra). A humorous
skit by nwa jesus filled the atmosphere with excitement, and was equally
complemented by power packed drama from NALISS 300 and 400l community.
The event finally concluded as the student president Mr.
Cosmos Nnaji, on behalf of the all the other student convenors took the stage
to express their vote of thanks. They thanked the honourable director for
gracing the occasion. A special thanks was extended to the dean students
affairs Prof. Ezeanyika and course adviser Dr. Basil E. For their vital role in
the organisation of the event and for guiding the student convenors with their
wisdom at every step.
The
presentations were a wonderful opportunity for the students to share with the
audience, their understanding about culture and indeed themselves, and in doing
so further enhanced their Igbo language skills as observed by Mr. Elijah.
In the end the student convenors thanked each and
everyone involved in making NALISS cultural day ’17 such a memorable event, with
the words of gratitude still ringing in the students’ ears. The NALISS cultural
day 2017 finally ended in all its glory.
