The election of new executives into Imo state university student Union was cancelled when the President, National association of Nigerian students (NANS) zone B, Mr Chinonso Obasi, stepped out to declare it inconclusive.

Majority of observers including students who came out to cast their vote during the yet to be completed SUG election may wonder why it turned inconclusive just in the middle of the process with no fresh date announced.

The electoral chairman of the union Comrade Clinton Uzoukwu popularly known by students as "Cuzy", 600L medical student of the school has lent his voice to Imsu info-scope media led by the wireless informant of imo stars on the foundations that constituted the indefinite postponement of the union's election.

According to the electoral chairman, the election was canceled, citing 'disturbing situations' due to participation of some big shots not just at the campaign and manifesto ground but also at the polling unit.

The decision to cancel the election was taken in view of 'extra-ordinary' situations which boarded on shortage of ballot papers, some faculties voting with admission letter while others where voting with school identity card.

The chairman in an official notification went further to credit reasons why the election was canceled to aspirants campaigning at the election ground and graduates being fully on ground to impose candidates against the students wish.

Answering to shortage of ballot papers, the Union electoral chairman said

"We printed over 35,000 (thirty-five thousand) ballot papers, but due to the un-ordinated nature of the voters, we decided bringing it batch after batch to enable the Union electoral committee be in charge of the entire electoral process to avert hijacking of voting materials".

The credibility of the election on a scale of 1 - 100, its transparency was rated over 50% by Comrade Clinton, the Union electoral chairman.

Meanwhile, security arrangements have been beefed up in and around the university campus and Rapid Action Force has been deployed at strategic points in the school.A
