IMSU UPDATE: MEDICINE AND SURGERY WILL NOT ADMIT NEW STUDENTS THIS YEAR - NUC SAYS

Report reaching us has it that medicine and surgery Imsu may not be allowed to admit new students this year (2018/2019) reason being that the department is yet to secure full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) despite scaling through the medical council's accreditation (MDCN).

According to the accreditation report released by NUC which was addressed to the University's vice chancellor, Theater Art, English & Literary Studies, Marketing, Urban & Regional Planning, French, Library & Information Science among others scored 100% in the exercise which took place in November last year while Architecture, Fine and applied science scored interim; Medicine was denied, the wireless informant learnt.

The body noted in the letter that 100% accreditation status is valid for 5-years; Interim is valid for 2-years; while denied status has immediate ban on students admission.

This implies that medicine and surgery department despite scaling through the medical council's accreditation (MDCN) and can graduate and induct doctors, they failed the NUC accreditation and therefore will not be allowed to admit fresh students this year.

Further more, Prospective students who applied for admissions in the program for 2018/2019 academic year should take note.
